Crystal Lake Opens Its Gates October 15 — Camp’s Back in Session, Screamers
Official still. © Peacock / A24
You hear the water first. That black lake, flat as a held breath, with the moon laid across it like a body. You’re standing on a dock that shouldn’t still be standing, and somewhere in the trees a woman is humming a lullaby that curdles the air. You’ve been here before. You never left, really.
Turn off the lights, fiends — we’re going back to camp.
THE FACTS: Crystal Lake, A24’s prequel series to 1980’s Friday the 13th, premieres on Peacock this Thursday, October 15 — all eight episodes dropping at once. Set eight years before the original film, the series stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, with Callum Vinson as a young Jason, alongside William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. Oh, and Adrienne King — the original Alice Hardy — is back in a recurring role. The Voorhees family reunion just got real.

Full disclosure, up front, because that’s how we do things here: nobody outside the press screenings has seen a full episode. But this isn’t vaporware, horror hounds — filming wrapped in October 2025 at the same camp where the 1980 original bled out, the teaser dropped in July, and the series has already screened at TIFF’s Primetime program and Beyond Fest. The first live-action Friday the 13th in over fifteen years isn’t a rumor anymore. It’s a date.
And fiends — Harper already walked these woods. Our review of the 1980 original lives here: Friday the 13th (1980) Review. You don’t get to Pamela’s sermon without surviving the counselors first.
Ki-ki-ki, ma-ma-ma. That’s not a sound effect, kids — that’s a dinner bell.
The Verdict: No skulls on a series we haven’t seen — but on paper? This is the Friday the 13th event of the decade, and that’s not hyperbole, that’s arithmetic.

– Principal photography shot under the working title Mama’s Boy — which is either the sweetest or the most terrifying title this franchise has ever had.
– Harry Manfredini, composer of the original’s iconic score, wrote the series theme.
