Jason Voorhees’ Dad Finally Has a Face — Crystal Lake’s Elias Reveal Is Franchise History

You know every Voorhees by heart. Pamela, the sweater, the machete in the rain. But the other name — the one whispered once and never spoken of again — has been a blank space for forty-six years. Jason’s father. Tonight, that blank has a face.
Lock the doors, fiends. We’re going back to 1959.

Here’s the news, and it’s big enough to rattle the whole franchise: Crystal Lake has done what twelve Friday the 13th films never did — put Jason Voorhees’ father on screen. Hamish Linklater (Widow’s Bay, Gen V) plays Elias, and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane didn’t dig him up for a cameo. He made him the monster the hockey mask was hiding from.
Full disclosure, up front — this is heavy spoiler country, straight from Radio Times’ exclusive chat with Kane and Peacock’s own series blog, so consider this your last exit before Camp Blood. And here’s the twist inside the twist: he isn’t quite the Elias of franchise lore. The show reimagines him as Elias Wittering, a low-level Bellflower Chemical man who nudges a pregnant, aspiring singer named Pamela Scott toward experimental “treatments” to save her pregnancy — treatments that turn out to be Project Argonaut, a program building a human who can survive the nuclear age. Jason isn’t a curse in this version. He’s a line item. And his own father signs the paperwork.
Kane told Radio Times he wanted episode seven — the 1959 flashback, titled “Friday…” — to play like “Douglas Sirk meets David Cronenberg.” Mad Men, with body horror crawling underneath. He asked Linklater to channel a Don Draper type: ambitious, patriarchal, loving his wife the way a man of that era loves what he owns. “He’s just a total villain in this thing,” Kane said, “but at the same time, you do think that he loves his wife… very much like John Cassavetes in Rosemary’s Baby, he’s willing to do what it takes to further his own career.” Talk about daddy issues.
