It’s The Evil Dead, and it’s awesome.

4 out of 5 stars

What’s it about?

The Evil Dead Movie is about Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his four friends who go on a vacation to a cabin in the woods. Sounds like a typical horror movie setup, right? Well, things get crazy when they find an old book and a tape recorder in the basement. The book is called the Necronomicon, and it’s the Book of the Dead. The tape has the voice of an archaeologist who found the book and read some of its passages out loud. Big mistake. Because those passages unleash evil spirits that possess and kill anyone who hears them. Soon, Ash’s friends turn into zombies, and he has to fight them off with whatever he can find.

Why is it scary?

The Evil Dead is scary because it’s gory, violent, and shocking. The film has a lot of scenes of blood, guts, and body parts flying around. It also has some creepy moments, like when a tree attacks one of the girls or when the zombies laugh maniacally. The film also uses sound effects, music, and lighting to create a tense and claustrophobic atmosphere. The film’s score by Joseph LoDuca is eerie and discordant, and it contrasts with some cheerful songs that play during ironic moments. The film’s lighting is mostly dark and shadowy, with flashes of red and green to show the evil force. The film’s camera work is also dynamic and inventive, using handheld shots, zooms, pans, tilts, and tracking shots to follow the characters’ movements and perspectives. The film also uses a technique called “shaky cam”, where Raimi ran through the woods with a camera on a board to show the point of view of the evil force.

Why is The Evil Dead Movie awesome?

The Evil Dead Movie

The Evil Dead Movie is awesome because it’s low-budget but high-quality. The film was made with only $375,000 by Raimi and his friends, who had no professional experience or equipment. They had to improvise a lot of things, like using fake blood made from corn syrup and food coloring or using stop-motion animation for some effects. They also had to endure a lot of hardships during filming, like freezing weather, injuries, and infections. But they managed to make a film that looks great and has a lot of style and energy. The movie also features a memorable performance by Campbell as Ash, who becomes one of the most beloved horror heroes of all time. He starts as a timid and cowardly guy who gradually transforms into a badass and witty fighter.

How does it compare to other horror films?

The Evil Dead is often compared to other horror classics like Night of the Living Dead (1968), The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), The Exorcist (1973), and The Cabin in the Woods (2012). It also shares some similarities with other horror films that have isolated cabins in the woods as settings for terror, like Friday the 13th (1980), The Blair Witch Project (1999), Cabin Fever (2002), and Evil Dead (2013). But The Evil Dead stands out for its originality and its influence on horror cinema. It spawned a media franchise that includes sequels, remakes, spin-offs, video games, comics, and a TV series. It also inspired many other filmmakers who admire Raimi’s talent and vision.

So, what do I think of The Evil Dead Horror Movie? Well, I think it’s a horror film that you should watch if you love gore, humor, and creativity. It’s one of those movies that you can watch with your friends and have a blast. You can laugh at the cheesy effects, the silly dialogue, and the absurd situations. You can also scream at the scary moments, the gross scenes, and the jump scares. You can also admire the craftsmanship, the style, and the energy of the film.

But hey, The Evil Dead is not for everyone. If you are easily offended or disturbed by graphic violence or sexual content, you might want to skip this one. It’s not a movie for the faint of heart or for the squeamish. It’s a movie for hardcore horror fans who can appreciate a low-budget masterpiece that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

So, are you ready to watch The Evil Dead? Or are you too scared to face the evil? The choice is yours. But remember: don’t read any books you find in a creepy cabin in the woods. And don’t play any tapes you find in a creepy basement. And don’t go into the woods alone at night. And don’t trust anyone who looks like a zombie. And don’t forget to bring a chainsaw.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars for its entertainment value, its cult status, its influence on horror cinema, and its technical achievements.
