The Revenge of La Llorona is an upcoming American supernatural horror film directed by Santiago Menghini from a screenplay by Sean Tretta. It is a sequel to The Curse of La Llorona (2019) and, like that film, draws on the Latin American legend of the Weeping Woman. Monica Raymund, Jay Hernandez and Raymond Cruz lead the cast, with Cruz returning as the curandero Rafael Olvera. James Wan and Gary Dauberman are among the producers for New Line Cinema and Atomic Monster. Warner Bros. Pictures will release The Revenge of La Llorona in the United States on February 26, 2027.

Premise and what we know
The announced story follows a fractured family who reunite with their estranged grandfather, a curandero (a traditional healer), to fight La Llorona before she claims them. The grandfather is Rafael Olvera, the former priest turned folk healer whom Cruz played in the first film. He is the direct link between the two movies. Warner Bros. has not released a fuller synopsis, and the family’s names and the setting have not been officially confirmed.
La Llorona, “the weeping woman,” is one of the best-known figures of Mexican and wider Latin American folklore. In the common telling, a woman drowns her own children and is condemned to wander near water, crying for them and taking other children in their place. The legend has many regional versions, and it has been adapted for the screen many times. That makes this a La Llorona folklore movie in the most direct sense: the sequel builds its threat on that story, as the 2019 film did.
Production and development
The film was announced on October 9, 2025. The announcement named Menghini as director, Tretta as writer and the full principal cast at once. Menghini made his feature debut with the Netflix horror film No One Gets Out Alive (2021). Wan, Dauberman and Emile Gladstone are the producers. Principal photography began in October 2025 in Buffalo, New York.
The first film, directed by Michael Chaves and produced by Wan, was set in 1973 Los Angeles and starred Linda Cardellini as a social worker whose children become the spirit’s targets. It drew mostly negative reviews, but on a budget of about $9 million it grossed about $123 million worldwide. That return is the clearest reason a sequel exists.

What to expect
The 2019 film sat at the edge of the Conjuring Universe. It was not marketed as a main entry, but it shares the series’ world, and a brief appearance by Father Perez links it to Annabelle. Sources describe the sequel the same way: it takes place within the Conjuring Universe without being treated as a core installment. Do not expect the Warrens. Expect a self-contained family haunting with the same mythology underneath.
Bringing back Olvera suggests the curandero side of the story, with its rituals, protective charms and folk remedies, will be larger this time. With a family at the center again, the Weeping Woman’s fixation on children is likely to stay at the heart of the scares, though plot details remain under wraps.
Release and status
Warner Bros. first dated the film for April 9, 2027. It then swapped dates with another of the studio’s releases, Panic Carefully, which moved The Revenge of La Llorona up to February 26, 2027. Australian listings show February 25. No trailer, rating or runtime had been officially released as of October 10, 2026.
