The untitled Blair Witch reboot is an upcoming American horror film from Lionsgate and Blumhouse–Atomic Monster that reimagines The Blair Witch Project (1999). Dylan Clark, a filmmaker who built his following on YouTube, is directing from a screenplay by Chris Thomas Devlin. Jason Blum and James Wan produce, and the original film’s creators and two of its stars are executive producers. Lionsgate has set the Blair Witch reboot 2027 release for September 24, 2027. Trade coverage mostly refers to it as a new Blair Witch Project, but no official title has been announced, so this wiki lists it as untitled.

Premise and what we know
Plot details have not been revealed. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson has described the film as a “new vision” that will “reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation.” That language points to a fresh story rather than a direct sequel, but the studio has not said whether the film uses found footage, returns to Burkittsville, Maryland, or connects to earlier entries.
The original film follows three student filmmakers who hike into the woods to make a documentary about a local legend, the Blair Witch, and disappear. Their recovered footage is the film. Its “found footage” approach and a marketing campaign that presented the students as missing made it one of the most influential horror films of its era.
Production and development
Lionsgate and Blumhouse announced the reboot at CinemaCon in 2024. Clark was later reported as the director, working from a script by Devlin, who wrote the screenplay for Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022). Blum and Wan produce with Roy Lee, Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath.
The original creators are involved. Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, who wrote and directed the 1999 film, are executive producers along with producer Gregg Hale, and original cast members Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams are also executive producers. Michael Clear, Judson Scott and Steven Schneider complete the executive producer list. In June 2026, Variety and Deadline reported that Lionsgate had dated the film for September 24, 2027.
Cast
No cast has been announced. Leonard and Williams are attached as executive producers, not as actors, and no returning on-screen roles have been confirmed. This section will be updated when casting is announced.
What to expect
Anyone hoping for a new Blair Witch movie should know the series’ history. The Blair Witch Project was made for a micro budget and grossed nearly $250 million worldwide. It was followed by Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000) and by Adam Wingard’s Blair Witch (2016), a direct sequel. Neither matched the original’s success. Hiring a director who came up on YouTube suggests Lionsgate wants someone fluent in how audiences now watch and share low-fi horror online. That fits a property whose original hook was footage that looked real.
Release and status
Lionsgate has set the film for September 24, 2027, a fall slot ahead of Halloween. The film is still being described by trade outlets as a Blair Witch Project remake or reboot. Some event listings have used The Blair Witch Project as a working name, but no final title has been officially confirmed. This page will be retitled once one is announced. Cast, rating and runtime had not been announced as of October 10, 2026.
