Overview
Child’s Play is a dying killer who puts his soul in a doll. Don Mancini wrote the 1988 film. Tom Holland directed it. Brad Dourif plays Charles Lee Ray and voices Chucky after the transfer. The early films are a boy and his mother trying to be believed. Bride of Chucky (1998) adds Tiffany and turns the series into a black comedy. The later films follow the dolls. A television series continued the same story. A 2019 remake recast the premise and the voice.
The films
Child’s Play 2 (1990) and Child’s Play 3 (1991) keep Andy Barclay. Bride of Chucky introduces Tiffany Valentine, played by Jennifer Tilly, who stays in the series as a doll and as herself. Seed of Chucky, Curse of Chucky, and Cult of Chucky continue Mancini’s line. He directed several of them. The Syfy series Chucky picks up after Cult. The 2019 film, directed by Lars Klevberg, is a separate AI-doll story and not part of that continuity. Dourif is not the voice in that one. Mark Hamill is.
