Fall 2: Deadpoint

Fall 2: Deadpoint (2026) official movie poster

Fall 2: Deadpoint (2026) is an American survival thriller directed by Peter and Michael Spierig — the Spierig Brothers — and written by Scott Mann and Jonathan Frank. It is the sequel to Fall (2022), the micro-budget tower thriller that became a phenomenon on Netflix. The sequel trades the tower for a mountain: Jax Hunter (Harriet Slater), the younger sister of Shiloh Hunter, travels to Thailand to finish the climb her sister never got to make — the plank walk up Mount Kwan — and a rockslide strands her and her sister’s friend Luce (Arsema Thomas) at a broken section called the Devil’s Elbow, thousands of feet above the jungle. The poster’s tagline asks the only question that matters: “Are You Down?” In the United Kingdom the film was released under the plainer title Fall 2.

Plot summary

Jax Hunter is selling her sister’s truck. Shiloh Hunter made her living climbing towers and drops like this one, filming it all — and the last climb took her. Jax was supposed to be the sibling who was afraid of heights. Then Luce, Shiloh’s old friend, talks her out of the sale and into a memorial instead: fly to Thailand and finish the climb Shiloh never finished, a plank walk bolted to the side of Mount Kwan, topped by a dragon statue said to eat your fears.

Mount Kwan is not “technically off-limits.” It is closed — earthquakes, rockslides, heavy rain. Getting up it takes a code phrase at a secluded bar and a guide, Jon (Tom Brittney), paid to break the rules. The walk itself is a religion of two carabiners: clip in, clip out, along wooden planks flexing over a drop of thousands of feet. Then the mountain shrugs. A rockslide in heavy rain cuts the route, separates the women from Jon — who they believe has been killed — and destroys the planks behind them. Jax and Luce are stranded at the Devil’s Elbow, their backpack hanging out of reach, with no way forward and the way back gone.

Spoiler section: the ending

Stranded, the women wait — and the secrets come out. “Luce” is not Luce. Reviewing Shiloh’s old camera footage, Jax realises the woman beside her is Billie, a fan of Shiloh’s channel who posed as her sister’s friend to get close to her; she is also dying of terminal cancer, and what began as deception has become a genuine attempt to pull Jax through her grief. Jon, it turns out, survived the rockslide, and he does get them off the Elbow — but the rescue curdles on the final crossing, an unstable bridge between the peaks. Billie opens one of the oxygen tanks Jon supplied and finds fentanyl inside: the illegal climb was a smuggling run, and the climbers were unwitting mules. The approaching helicopter belongs to traffickers, not authorities. Jon pushes Billie to her death, then falls to his own while trying to kill Jax. Jax bargains her way onto the helicopter with the remaining drugs, buys a drink back at the bar in Billie’s memory — and opens Shiloh’s scrapbook to find the next destination circled: Hell’s Chasm. Elsewhere, Shiloh’s friend Becky Connor receives an invitation to Hell’s Chasm. The next climb is already booked.

Production and behind the scenes

The first Fall was a $3 million film that grossed $21.8 million in theaters — and then exploded when it hit Netflix, turning a modest theatrical run into a word-of-mouth phenomenon. A sequel was in early development by March 2023, and in October 2023 the studio greenlit two sequels at once, formally treating Fall as a franchise.

Scott Mann, who co-wrote and directed the original with Jonathan Frank, stayed in the room — co-writing and producing — but handed the camera to new hands: Peter and Michael Spierig, the brothers behind Predestination and Jigsaw, were announced as directors in May 2024. The film was shot on location in Thailand, with production completed by September 2025. For most of that production it was simply Fall 2; the Deadpoint subtitle only arrived in 2026. The film was produced by Tea Shop Productions, Capstone Pictures and Flawless Productions.

Release and reception

Fall 2: Deadpoint opened in US theaters on September 2, 2026, through Lionsgate. On the same reported $3 million budget as the original, it grossed $25.6 million worldwide — $5 million in the US and Canada and $20.6 million in other territories. Critics were mixed: it holds a 53% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 54 on Metacritic, and audiences gave it a B− CinemaScore. Think Horror’s review of Fall 2: Deadpoint scored it 2 out of 5 skulls, praising the vertigo set pieces and the two lead performances while arguing the script bolts on twists instead of trusting the height.

The film arrived on digital on October 6, 2026 — to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Google TV and YouTube. The Blu-ray lands November 17, 2026, bundled with DVD and a digital copy, plus a making-of featurette called “Height Horror.” No subscription streaming home has been announced yet.

Legacy and influence

Deadpoint is the film that turned an accident into a franchise. The original Fall was a single dare — two women, one tower — but the double greenlight in 2023 and this film’s closing tease of Hell’s Chasm commit the series to a continuing cast and an ongoing story. A third film, Fall 3, was greenlit alongside this one, with Scott Mann set to return to the director’s chair and characters from both films expected back. No release date has been announced. Two films, one fear, zero handrails — that is the whole franchise in a sentence, and Deadpoint is the chapter that made it a series instead of a fluke.

Trivia

  • Born on Netflix: the first Fall did solid theatrical business, but its streaming explosion is what got two sequels greenlit at once in October 2023.
  • A changing of the guard: Scott Mann co-wrote and produced, but directing went to Peter and Michael Spierig — the brothers who rebooted the Saw franchise with Jigsaw (2017).
  • She’s still up there: Virginia Gardner returns as Shiloh Hunter in flashbacks, and Grace Caroline Currey reprises her role as Becky Connor in an uncredited cameo.
  • The name came late: for most of production the film was just Fall 2. The Deadpoint subtitle arrived in 2026, and British audiences still get the plain title.
  • The poster asks the only question that matters: “Are You Down?”
  • Same tiny budget, bigger mountain: a reported $3 million, identical to the original — and it has already climbed past $25 million worldwide.
  • Nobody can agree how high the drop is: the marketing has used both 3,000 and 5,000 feet. At that height, the difference stops mattering.
