You’re in a theater in 2008, and something is wrong — in the best way. The guy from Saw is making people sing. Paris Hilton is singing. Paul Sorvino, of Goodfellas, is singing. On stage, a man in a face-painted skull grins at you like he owns your organs. And you realize: you’re not at a movie. You’re at a gathering.

Turn off the lights, horror lovers — the repo men are coming to collect.

THE FACTS: “Repo! This Movie: The Anatomy of a Cult,” a new making-of documentary from filmmaker “Spooky” Dan Walker, has dropped its official trailer — and it’s arriving alongside Lionsgate’s brand-new 4K release of Repo! The Genetic Opera, available TODAY, October 13. The $34.99 SteelBook edition packs the film on 4K UHD and Blu-ray with a digital copy and a Bousman-approved Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos remaster. The documentary itself covers pre-production, production, and post — with new interviews from Sarah Brightman, Paris Hilton, Anthony Stewart Head, Alexa Vega, Bill Moseley, Paul Sorvino, Bousman, and co-creator Terrance Zdunich. Walker documented the original roadshows back in the day, so this isn’t a talking-heads afterthought — it’s the cult, telling its own origin story. Also on the disc: Bousman’s wife Laura’s behind-the-scenes tapes, new commentary with Bousman, Darren Smith, and Zdunich, “Addicted to the Shadowcast,” deleted scenes, and sing-alongs. Yes. Sing-alongs.

Quick Specs: Director: “Spooky” Dan Walker (documentary) | Subject: Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008), dir. Darren Lynn Bousman | Release: Today — October 13, 2026 (Lionsgate Limited 4K SteelBook) | Price: $34.99 | Includes: 4K UHD + Blu-ray + digital, documentary, commentaries, sing-alongs, four character cards | Interviews: Brightman, Hilton, Head, Vega, Moseley, Sorvino, Bousman, Zdunich

Full disclosure, up front: Harper hasn’t seen the documentary yet — nobody has, it’s brand new. But this is one of the rare cases where the pitch sells itself. Bousman and Zdunich took this thing on a traveling roadshow with shadowcasts for years; the fans who dressed up and sang along ARE the story. A documentary built on that footage, by a guy who was actually there? That’s not bonus content. That’s the director’s cut of the fandom itself.

Trivia & Facts

  • Bousman directed Saw II, III, and IV — and he says getting Repo! green-lit is what pulled him back to direct Saw IV.
  • Sarah Brightman — the original Christine in The Phantom of the Opera — plays the blind opera singer Blind Mag.
  • The film’s world: an organ-failure epidemic lets GeneCo sell transplants on credit. Miss a payment, and the Repo Man comes knocking.
  • The roadshow screenings ran well beyond the film’s limited theatrical release, building the cult in person.
  • SteelBook artwork is by Chuck Styles, and the package includes four character cards.

FAQ

What is Repo! The Genetic Opera about? In a future ravaged by organ failure, GeneCo sells transplants on credit — and repossesses them, violently, when payments stop. It’s a rock opera. A gory one.

Is the documentary streaming? Not yet — “Repo! This Movie: The Anatomy of a Cult” is currently exclusive to the new 4K SteelBook release.

Who’s in the documentary? New interviews with Sarah Brightman, Paris Hilton, Anthony Stewart Head, Alexa Vega, Bill Moseley, Paul Sorvino, Darren Lynn Bousman, and Terrance Zdunich, plus archival roadshow footage.

Is the 4K remaster any good? It’s Bousman-approved, with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos — the definitive presentation of the film.

So raise a scalpel to the weird ones, fiends — the cult classics that refused to die quietly. Repo! was never supposed to work. That’s exactly why it never stopped working. Zydrate will be missed.
