Yaga is an eight-episode supernatural mystery reimagining the Baba Yaga myth as a coastal noir, premiering October 23 on AMC+.

There’s a house at the tree line you were warned about before you could spell your own name. It does not knock. It waits. Now picture that same old hunger wearing a small town’s face — a missing heir, a detective who wants you gone, and a professor who smiles like she already knows how your story ends.

Leave a light on in the hallway, fiends. This witch keeps office hours.

Yaga premieres Friday, October 23 on AMC+ in the US and Crave in Canada, opening with two episodes. Noah Reid plays Rapp, a private investigator who rolls into a coastal town looking for Henry Park, the missing heir to a billion-dollar fishery, played by Hudson Williams. Clark Backo is Carson, the local detective whose case Rapp keeps stepping on, and Carrie-Anne Moss plays Katherine, a charismatic university professor with secrets of her own.

The series comes from playwright Kat Sandler, who adapted her own 2019 stage play and runs the show. Sandler calls it “a collision of folklore, fairy tale, noir thriller, police procedural, horror, and feminist fantasy” — which is a lot of doors for one little house on chicken legs to hide behind.

Full disclosure, up front, because that’s how we do things here: the run is short, sharp and still mostly under wraps — eight half-hour episodes, no binge drop. After the two-episode premiere, new chapters land on Fridays through the two-episode finale on November 27. The series already had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 17, so the cauldron has been tasted — the rest of us just have to wait our turn at the table.
