Paranormal Activity (2027) is an upcoming American supernatural horror film written and directed by Ian Tuason, the eighth installment in the found-footage franchise that began with Oren Peli’s Paranormal Activity (2007). It has been widely reported as Paranormal Activity 8. Studio listings so far simply call it Paranormal Activity, and a final title has not been confirmed. Chase Yi, Sonia Mena and Maya da Costa star. Jason Blum, James Wan and Peli produce for Paramount Pictures, which will release the Paranormal Activity 8 2027 entry in US theaters on May 21, 2027.

Premise and what we know
Paramount has not released a synopsis, and the story is under wraps. What is confirmed is the team and the place in the series. This is the eighth feature, and the first in theaters since Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015). The seventh film, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021), went straight to the Paramount+ streaming service. The Hollywood Reporter described the new film as part of a renewed push by Paramount, which called it a “priority theatrical release.” Peli, who made the original for about $15,000, returns as a producer.
Anyone searching for a Paranormal Activity new movie plot should be wary of detailed descriptions online. Character names, setting and the link to the series’ long-running mythology about the demon and the coven have not been announced.
Production and development
A new installment was reported to be in development in December 2025, with Tuason signing on to write and direct that month. Tuason is behind Undertone, a low-budget horror film told largely through sound, which A24 released in the United States in March 2026. It became a box-office success, earning about $21.6 million on a budget of about $500,000. That kind of minimal, atmospheric horror is a natural fit for a franchise built on static cameras and quiet rooms.
Chase Yi and Sonia Mena were cast in the leads in June 2026, and Maya da Costa joined the following month. Principal photography ran in Toronto from July 13 to August 26, 2026, under the working title Bavarian. Michael Clear, Judson Scott and Steven Schneider are executive producers. Schneider has worked on the series since the original.
Cast
- Chase Yi
- Sonia Mena
- Maya da Costa
Roles have not been officially announced. Whether any earlier cast members, including original star Katie Featherston, appear has not been confirmed.
What to expect
The franchise has grossed more than $900 million worldwide across seven films, almost all of them made on tiny budgets. Its formula is simple: a home, a camera left running at night, and small disturbances that escalate. Tuason’s background in sound-driven horror suggests he will lean on what the audience hears as much as what the camera catches. At New York Comic Con in October 2026, Blum said the series had been paused so it would not be run into the ground. He presented the new film as a deliberate return rather than another quick sequel.
Release and status
Paramount has set the film for a wide US theatrical release on May 21, 2027. The title has not been finalized. Trade reports and database listings variously use Paranormal Activity and Paranormal Activity 8. This page will be renamed if the studio announces a different title. No trailer, rating or runtime had been released as of October 10, 2026.
