Overview
Neve Campbell plays Sidney Prescott, the target Ghostface cannot finish. Scream (1996) introduced her as the daughter of a murdered mother and the girlfriend of the killer. The sequels keep coming back to her because the series does not work if she is only a cameo. She is in the first four films, the 2022 revival, and Scream 7. She sat out Scream VI after a pay dispute.
Career
Campbell trained as a dancer and came up through Party of Five and The Craft before Wes Craven cast her. Scream made her the final girl who has already seen the movies. Kevin Williamson’s script gives her the rule speech’s opposite: she survives by refusing the bit. Scream 2 moves her to college. Scream 3 puts her in hiding. Scream 4 brings her home. The 2022 film, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, treats her as the adult in a legacy cast.
She declined Scream VI, citing an offer she called disrespectful. The film went ahead without her and followed the younger cast to New York. She returned for Scream 7. Outside the series she has worked in film and television at a quieter pace than the 1990s, including The Company and a return to dance-world stories. Sidney remains the role.
