The IT Hub: Every Pennywise Nightmare in One Crypt

You hear it first — a music-box wheeze from the storm drain at the end of the block. A red balloon bobs where there is no wind at all. Every twenty-seven years, Derry feeds its children to the dark, and the dark wears a painted smile. Turn off the lights. Stay out of the sewers. Whatever you do, don’t go to Derry alone.

Still with me? Good. That means you’re one of us. This is the IT Hub — Think Horror’s front door for every version of Stephen King’s clown-shaped nightmare: the 1990 miniseries, Andy Muschietti’s blockbuster two-parter, the monster itself, and HBO’s prequel series Welcome to Derry. Everything Derry lives here now, and this page is where future Derry news will land.

Meet the Monster: Pennywise the Dancing Clown

He’s not really a clown. He’s an ancient shapeshifter sleeping beneath Derry, Maine, waking every twenty-seven years to feed — mostly on children, because their fears are the sweetest. The clown is just his favorite mask: red balloons, a painted smile, and the deadlights behind it. Tim Curry made him iconic in 1990; Bill Skarsgård made him feral in 2017 and hasn’t let go since. It (1990): The Miniseries That Started It All

Before the blockbusters, there was the ABC event: a two-night miniseries directed by Tommy Lee Wallace, with Tim Curry grinning out of the sewers at the Losers’ Club — as kids, and as haunted adults thirty years later. A generation of us never looked at a storm drain the same way. Our full page: It 1990 Miniseries: Tim Curry’s Pennywise, Cast and Facts.

It (2017): The Blockbuster That Broke Records

Andy Muschietti moved the Losers to 1988–89, handed the greasepaint to Bill Skarsgård, and turned King’s brick into a $702.7 million phenomenon — the highest-grossing horror film ever, unadjusted for inflation. Seven outcast kids, one blood oath, and a paper boat that never comes back. Our full page: Pennywise and the Losers’ Club: It 2017 Movie.

It Chapter Two (2019): The Losers Grow Up

Twenty-seven years later, the oath comes due. James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain and Bill Hader lead the adult Losers back to Derry for a 169-minute final showdown with a clown-spider hybrid — and an ending that shrinks the monster by refusing to fear it. $473.1 million worldwide, and the book, finally, closed. It: Welcome to Derry (HBO): The Prequel

HBO went back — all the way back. Developed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti with Jason Fuchs, Welcome to Derry is a prequel to the films, digging into the town’s cursed history across eight episodes that premiered October 26, 2025, set in 1962. Skarsgård returned as Pennywise — and played double duty as Bob Gray, the original human Pennywise of 1908. And Derry isn’t done: HBO renewed the series for Season 2 on August 17, 2026.
