James Gunn Teases Clayface’s DCU Future — “I Can’t Wait for You Guys to See What We Do With Him”

Picture this, horror fiends — the Hollywood Legion Theater on October 13, camera flashes crackling like lightning over a graveyard, and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn strolls down the Clayface world premiere red carpet wearing a grin that says he knows exactly where the bodies are buried. The body-horror debut hasn’t even melted into theaters yet — it arrives October 23 — and already the man building the DCU is hinting the shapeshifter’s story is far from over. Turn off the lights, lock the doors, and lean in close. When Gunn teases what’s next, you listen with the volume up.

Speaking to Cinemex on the carpet, Gunn let slip the kind of line that sends fandom into a full fever dream: “this isn’t the last we’ll see of Clayface. And I can’t wait for you guys to see what we do with him.” He framed it as the sheer fun of building the DCU — stories in wildly different genres that still come together at certain points.

Full disclosure, up front: Gunn gave no specifics on where or when Clayface returns. So file this one as a tease, fiends — not a promise carved in tombstone.

Which leaves the question every one of you is already screaming into the night: where does the shapeshifter ooze up next? Could the Dark Knight ever face him? Gunn has previously confirmed the animated Creature Commandos version is this same character — but a Batman collision is pure graveyard gossip for now. No dates, no details. Just the kind of delicious dread we live for.

The horror debut itself is shaping up to be a real monster: directed by James Watkins, starring Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, with a script by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini — DC Studios’ first full-blooded horror venture, melting into theaters October 23.
